Enjoy the best French Christmas markets

Few weeks left for Christmas. Not too much time to wait to enjoy the presents, the dinners and lunches with family, the lightened city, and of course, the Christmas markets. It’s nice to see the cities fulfilled with living cribs, the smell of Christmas sweets, presents, Christmas songs…

This is the reason why today we’re going to propose you a very interesting route through our neighbour country. We must say that, from Barcelona, it took us less than two hours to get to the frontier. So, if you want to enjoy a nice weekend and visit the best Christmas markets in France, read our tips:

  • Carcassonne: The first stop would be Carcassonne. From Barcelona to Carcassonne there is around 305 km, so if you take the AP7 route it will take you 3 hours. This city is known worldwide for its walled citadel that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. From December 6th you can enjoy the Christmas market. You can see the full city lightened, enjoy the attractions, the concerts, the ice rink, the Noria… Definitely a Beautiful spectacle with which the whole family will enjoy it.

  • Avignon: The Second stop will be Avignon. It’s important to say that from Carcassonne to Avignon there is around 2 hours, more specifically 240 kilometres. So the way from one spot to the other it won’t seem long or bored. From one hand, this city which is located next the River Roine was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO too, but this one in 1995. From the other hand, you can enjoy an incredible lighting, activities and concerts for the little ones in the family. Finally, you can’t leave Avignon without buying one of its most famous «Santons», a classic craftsman from the living crib.

  • Lyon: Finally, we get to the last stop: Lyon. It has 427 hectares classified as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO since 1998. From Avignon to Lyon there is just 2 hours and a half, 230 kilometres. We recommend you to go to the Carnot of Lyon square, surely it would be full of people and you’ll can see for almost 150 Christmas exhibitors. You can also visit the market in Plaça Croix-Rousse, an indoor Christmas market where you can buy all kinds of products: nougats, cakes, gifts, hot wine… You can not miss the lights’ party, from the 6th to the 8th of December! You’ll see the incredible lights’ show at this link:

Where can we sleep with a campervan?

We really recommend you to visit this French city at Christmas times, not just because it’s really close, but for its special characteristics. In addition, from Cargloing we recommend you to use one of our campervans to enjoy this weekend. Among the main advantages, we find that traveling in a campervan is much more comfortable and entertaining. The campervan gives you freedom that no other transport does, bring the food, the suitcase, and to sleep each night in different places… So, travel with campervan means to bring your home with you always, which is better than travel with rain or plane and sleep into a hotel or an apartment.

From Cargling we recommend you the PARK4NIGHT app where you can find the closest campervan areas. This app uses geolocation, and you can see users' reviews of the best spots to "park for night".

If you want to enjoy this route around France with a campervan you can rent one of our vehicles from our website This shows you the availability, makes your budget and allows you to make the reservation online. Cajoling is located in the centre of Barcelona (Poble Nou’s neighborhood). You can come to pick up the campervan coming with the urban public transport. And we also offer you the possibility to get you the campervan to Barcelona’s Airport.
